Stephen Weindorff  #67
District 3,  DeSoto Parish School Board

Please allow me the opportunity to introduce myself to you and explain my purpose for becoming a candidate for DeSoto Parish School Board, District 3.  I am not a politician and I have no initials behind my name.  What I do have is my wife of 23 years, Lisa Weindorff (also my business partner in our computer business of 18 years), my 18 year old son Jonathan which is a recent graduate of North DeSoto High School, and my 11 year old daughter Lauren, which is currently a student at North DeSoto Middle School.

My daily routine consist of solving problems and maintaining technical infrastructures for corporate and residential customers.  Being the owner, many may think I am the boss, but in reality, every one of my customers are my bosses and I strive to provide complete satisfaction to each one.  As a School Board Member, I will take this position very seriously and work hard for you.  Our children are our most valuable assets and they are the generations of our future. This is not a position to take lightly.  My goal is quite simple.  Make decisions based on accurate information available to the board.  This may at times require making difficult decisions that may not be popular but necessary for the good of our future generations.  I will avoid rushing to conclusions and making hasty decisions that may not be in the best interest of our children.  I will work diligently for you, with utmost transparency and honesty.

Some of the issues that I promise to make a priority are the following:
  • Deal with Common Core issues and get education back on track with common sense using basic instructional techniques that have worked well for decades. A small group of people got together and provided a "fix" for something that the majority of people I have met with feel was not broken.   Every child learns differently and we should not force our children into a college path if that is not what they want to do with their life. There are plenty of extremely successful people in our society that never attended college.  Learning basic life skills is more important than teaching our children how to take test.  If all we have is high test scores and lack basic skills to live life, what have we really taught our children?
  • Bullying, the topic that no one seems to want to talk about or deal with is a major concern to me.  Statistically speaking, 1 out of 4 children will be the victim of some type of bullying at school, to and from school, while at school, and/or on social media during their life as a student.  This is an issue that many I have talked with on the campaign trail shared with me that feel is not taken seriously at the administration level.  Several have resorted to home schooling because they could not get satisfactory results after bringing the issues to school officials.  This is unacceptable and will be a focus point during my time as school board member.  A child can not learn and function normally when fearful of mistreatment by their peers.  A parent should never have to resort to home schooling because they fear for their child's safety.
  • Safety and Security of our children in transit to and from school, while at school, on special event trips away from campus is very important to me.  Being a CCTV installer, licensed by the State of Louisiana State Fire Marshals Office for the past 12 years, I frequently evaluate security vulnerabilities for areas requiring monitoring and make recommendations for increasing security.  I believe our children are our most valuable assets and priority should be given to ensure their safety.

There are numerous other issues in which we could do a better job in our schools. We are viewed by surrounding areas as being a good place to move for our high ranking schools.  But if we push our children for the main purpose of higher rankings in the state or nationally and leave out the more basic principals of life, our children will pay the price.  There must be a balance and at this moment, Common Core is playing a destructive role in the confidence of our children.  We must reevaluate our educational process and make corrections to what appears to be uncharted territory.  Click on the link at the bottom of this page to visit the site for a recent interview with former superintendent of Bossier Parish Schools, Jane Smith.  It is 17 minutes of worthwhile information about Common Core.

I would appreciate your vote and a vote for Stephen Weindorff #67 is a vote for the betterment of our children education.  You may reach me with any questions at 207-1405.  I look forward to serving you.  In the very near future, a forum will be opened on this page for your input and concerns.  Thank you for your vote. Together, we can make our schools the very best they can be.
